Eye Tracking: An Invaluable and Inexpensive Tool in Neuroscience
Why pupil and eye position are among the cheapest useful measurements you can add to a rodent rig.
Optical imaging, behavior, physiology monitoring and virtual reality instruments for neuroscience research in head-fixed and freely moving mice and rats. Each instrument works on its own and synchronizes with the rest of your rig over TTL.

Widefield intrinsic, fluorescence and speckle imaging, with optogenetic stimulation through the same optical path.

Widefield intrinsic, fluorescence and speckle imaging across the mouse cortex on the OiS200, with optogenetic stimulation delivered through the same optical path. Bioluminescence and trans-fluorescence whole-animal imaging on the OiS300, fiber photometry from deep structures in freely moving rodents, and serial blockface 3D histology ex vivo.
Imaging & optogenetics
Head fixation, treadmills and running wheels, whisker, olfactory, acoustic and visual stimulators, reward and decision devices, infrared cameras and automated home cages.
Behavioral researchECG, respiration, heart and breath rate, core temperature with active warming, SpO2, blood pressure and exhaled CO2, plus cardiac and respiratory gating for imaging.
Physiology monitoring

Functional mapping builds a cortical map for each individual mouse rather than relying on an atlas.
How behavioral context changes the way interconnected cortical regions process information.
Behavioral experiments rarely use a single device. Ours are built to be combined, mechanically, electrically and in software, so an imaging run, a behavioral task and a physiological recording stay on the same clock instead of being aligned afterwards.
Stimulus onset, frame acquisition, licks and heart rate all timestamped against each other, not reconciled from separate files after the session.
Instruments are designed to drop into the rig you already have.
Acquisition and control software for the instruments, analysis of imaging and behavioral video data, imaging studies run in our lab, and custom devices.
Software

Set the trial structure (stimulus, response window, reward, inter-trial interval) and Maestro runs every device in the rig on that sequence: stimulators, reward delivery, cameras and acquisition.
About Maestro
Ready-to-run virtual reality experiments with moving objects, trigger zones, TTL and audio outputs, and video synchronized to the session.
About VRLab Suite
Record pupil, whiskers or paws under infrared, with frames triggered by your acquisition system and DeepLabCut tracking shown live (up to 100 fps). Acquisition software included at no cost.
About the cameraServices
Preprocessing, functional mapping and quantification of widefield and intrinsic optical signal datasets, including per-animal cortical maps for targeting electrophysiology or microinjections.
About the serviceMarkerless tracking of limbs, whiskers, pupil and body posture from your video, delivered as coordinates and trained models you can rerun on new sessions yourself.
About the serviceImaging studies run in our lab on your animal models: calcium and speckle imaging, fiber photometry, optogenetics, bioluminescence and fluorescence.
Discuss a studyModified versions of our instruments, or new devices designed and built for a specific experiment: mechanics, electronics and control software.
Describe your setupPrimarily mice and rats. Physiology monitoring covers mice, neonatal rats and adult rats depending on the model, and the ECG & respiration gating system is additionally specified for guinea pigs and marmosets. The virtual reality and head fixation systems are built around head-fixed mice.
Every instrument works on its own. They are designed to be combined, not sold as an all-or-nothing platform: most labs start with one device and add to it. If you already have an imaging or electrophysiology rig, these are built to drop into it.
Through TTL and BNC lines, and through a PsychoPy plugin that ships with the devices. Stimulators, cameras and acquisition can be triggered from Maestro or from your own software, so stimulus onset and frame timing share a timestamp rather than being aligned afterwards.
Yes. Our publications page lists peer-reviewed work featuring LabeoTech systems, and the blog covers specific methods and case studies in more detail.
Describe the preparation, the species and what you need to measure. We'll come back with the instruments that cover it, and what is needed around them.
